Resident Profile - Ralph Gray

  1. What is your favorite thing about living at OLBV? Ralph really enjoys the wellness center all the activity’s we offer and of course the train room.

 

  1. How long have you lived here at OLBV? Ralph moved here with his wife of 72 yrs. 10 years ago. He still remembers the day Dec 9, 2009

 

  1. Why did you make the move to OLBV? Ralph has three kids, one son and two daughters. His son lives in Willoughby and wanted his parents to move closer to them. Ralph at the time was having some health issues and his son wanted him to see the Cleveland Clinic doctors. Ralph said they didn’t look at any other retirement community his son told them they need to be at Breckenridge Village.

 

  1. What did you do in your career before you retired? Ralph worked for the US Department of Agriculture for 36 years. Ralph would have a soil map of the farm, he would walk over the land to see what need to be done to improve it. He would have the tile draining installed or he would determine the rotation of the land and add or subtract better paths for the livestock. He would determine what tree would need to be planted or moved for the livestock he also would determine with the State Forester on what tree would be used for lumber. Ralph would also have to determine what soil the land is for city water lines and gas lines.Ralph graduated from Ohio State on March 18, 1949 in a degree in Agriculture. Ralph also wanted to become a pilot, so he joined the Navy for two years. 

 

  1. Do you have any interest or hobbies? Ralph has volunteered for 10 years for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. He really enjoys Train! Ralph also enjoys collecting old coins, Traveling, his favorite place he visited was Alaska. He also is very interested in doing genealogy he has  search for his family and  has gone back on his family tree as early as 1800’
