Spiritual Fulfilment During Your Retirement Years

Posted on July 06, 2018 in Spiritual Life

At Ohio Living Breckenridge Village, we believe that successful living involves adopting a  philosophy that addresses the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of all our residents. We’ve used purposeful programming in order to allow all members of our community the opportunity to incorporate these foundations into their daily lives – and to encourage them to do so. In this blog we’re discussing the importance of spiritual fulfillment for better quality of life and emotional and spiritual well-being.

Embracing Spirituality

While spirituality and religion are not always interconnected, it’s possible to have one without the other. Ohio Living Breckenridge Village understands that members of our community come from all walks of life. We employ a full-time Chaplain to help meet the daily spiritual needs of all members of the community and offer regular chapel services to residents.

There are also several churches representing various denominations within the surrounding communities. Members of the Breckenridge Village community are welcome to attend these services. Most of these churches also offer shuttle services to community members who are interested.

Spiritual wellness is about embracing those things in life that provide meaning, purpose, and joy. For some people, performing religious or spiritual acts helps them look beyond themselves in order to find a greater sense of purpose.

For other people this purpose comes in the form of volunteering activities. Others turn to meditation or prayers. It’s important for members of the community to define their own spiritual journeys. The greater Breckenridge Village community, though, may walk beside the individual to provide support and encouragement along the way.

Benefits of Spirituality

Most people are unaware of the many benefits living a spiritual life can provide. In addition to the good feeling that goes along with volunteering, those who live a spiritual life also experience other benefits such as:

  • Improved sense of well-being
  • Lower rates of depression
  • Increased life spans
  • Adapting better to medical conditions
  • Sleeping better
  • Boosting immune system health

Whenever possible, we encourage community members to remain involved in their own congregations. This assists with maintaining social circles as well as spiritual ones. When that isn’t possible we encourage them to express their own faiths or to abstain altogether. Allowing individual choices is perhaps the most important role of encouraging spiritual fulfillment through that we at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village have to offer the members of our community.
