Spontaneous Travel Tips

Posted on April 06, 2018 in Active Aging

If you want to take a spontaneous trip, don’t shy away from the idea! Embrace the random strike of inspiration. You might just have the time of your life!

Tips for a great last-minute trip:

●       Call ahead — Especially if your heart is set on a specific destination, you’ll want to call the venue ahead of time to make sure there’s an opening.

●       Be open to changes — Because of your spontaneity, you might need to be prepared for changes to your plan — have another restaurant or a different show or movie in mind, just in case.

●       Expect the unexpected — Of course, you never know what you will come across. Go on your mini-trip prepared to make an extra stop at a random shop that catches your eye!

There are plenty of fantastic date night opportunities, to go out of town (or somewhere local) with a loved one or even just a good friend!

●       Orchestra: There’s nothing quite as romantic as live music, is there? Sit back and absorb  the captivating sounds as they wash over you. Maybe even cry a little.

●       Theatre: Whether you watch a play or musical, you’re likely to have a great time. Try something new – it won’t hurt, and maybe you’ll enjoy it so much you’ll want to go again. No matter the opinion of what you saw in the end, you can have fun discussing what you loved or hated with your viewing partner.

●       Museums:  Perhaps you’d like a more educational or enlightening setting for your small trip. Museums come in all shapes and sizes – you’re bound to find something you’d love to explore and learn. When you come back, you can share with all of your friends what you learned and saw – maybe they’ll come along next time.

Wanting to get away for a little longer than one evening? Plan an overnight stay at a nearby hotel. It doesn’t matter who goes or what you do – sometimes just getting out of your same old routine is a welcome change. Find a good hotel and look for things nearby that you can do during the day. Are you too indecisive? Maybe you just thrive on mystery and spontaneity. Maybe you’d enjoy a mystery trip! What exactly is a mystery trip?

A mystery trip usually consists of a tour bus that will take a group of people (whoever signed up) through a few attractions that are a complete mystery to the travelers. All you have to do is bring your sense of adventure, sense of humor, and sensible shoes! Doesn’t that sound like a fun day?
