YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (April 18, 2022) – Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice - Greater Youngstown and Youngstown State University held a kickoff event Monday, April 18, at McKay Auditorium to celebrate their collaboration on a new university-supported intergenerational learning center titled “Vivo Center.”

The learning center is designed to address the changing needs of older adults in the community while creating a “living lab” for YSU students to gain hands-on experience working with the aging population.

“Intergenerational programming has been shown to be beneficial to both older and younger adults, and intergenerational interactions can be the gateway for students into a career in the aging field,” said Sarah Hadley, Executive Director - Greater Cleveland and Greater Youngstown, Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice.

“Attracting YSU students to aging careers through the collaboration with the senior center combined with Ohio Living offering mentoring and professional development opportunities for students is one way to address the workforce shortage in elder care and services,” Hadley added.

The name “Vivo Center” was selected through a contest among YSU students and the winner was unveiled during the kickoff celebration. The event also featured a breakfast, speakers, keynote presentation and information tables for intergenerational learning.
