Ohio Living staffers get a better understanding of Dementia

Staff members from Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice Greater Youngstown and Ohio Living Park Vista teamed up this week to learn more about the effects of Dementia and lets the user experience what it's like to have Dementia.

Employees completed "coach" training and are now coaches for AGEucate's Dementia Live module.  According to its website, Dementia Live is "a high impact, dementia simulation experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change."

Participants were also certified in Compassionate Touch, which combines skilled touch and specialized communication shown to prevent behavioral expression in people with dementia and those who are at end-of-life.

The training was held at Ohio Living Park Vista on July 18-19 and Dementia Live founder and trainer Pam Brandon flew out from Texas to train our staff members.
