A Special Pinning for a Special Veteran

Posted on June 29, 2020 in

A United States Navy veteran, Robert (Bob) Seaton began the love story with his wife Jean decades ago in a hallway between two offices at the Pentagon. The couple moved to Cleveland in 1972 and have lived locally ever since.

Realizing the need to downsize, the Seatons moved to Ohio Living Breckenridge Village in Willoughby a few years ago − and now call that
decision a godsend.

After a tragic stroke, Bob was hospitalized and sent to rehab for treatment, and then decided to seek hospice care to improve his quality of life and enable him to move back home with Jean. Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice became involved as soon as the family decided it was time.

In the early stages of Bob’s care, we shared about our tradition of holding a pinning ceremony for all of our veterans. That Friday, his daughter called to request that this service be held the following Monday, as she really didn’t know if her father would make it through the weekend.

We decided to make it happen that night. Within two hours, Bob was surrounded by his loved ones, getting pinned one last time.

Bob passed away less than 24 hours later, peacefully surrounded by his family in his home. “It was just amazing to make this happen with such short notice, and it created such a memorable moment,” Jean stated. She went on to add how her daughter was able to wear the pin placed on her father on Memorial Day in honor of him.

Jean said that she and her daughter were able to handle Bob’s care at home very easily, thanks to the Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice team. She appreciated how informed and knowledgeable the team was, and recognized several caregivers by name. She said that Sergey “was so compassionate with Bob and always treated Bob so caring.” Jean also mentioned nurse Kim, laughing as she recalled that Kim had been her student at one time. She appreciated how knowledgeable Kim was with managing all of Bob’s medications.

Jean and her family are thankful for what Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice did for Bob and their family. But we are truly grateful for the opportunity to help Bob’s loved ones create memories they can cherish forever.
