Volunteers Make Valentine's Day Special for Hospice Patients

The Henderson family in Wadsworth enjoys doing arts and crafts projects and when a family friend introduced them to the idea of doing a project for Ohio Living’s hospice patients, they jumped at the chance. The family decided to do “worry” or “love” stones for Valentine’s Day in hopes that they would bring beauty and light to whomever looked at or held them.

Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice staff in the greater Akron area purchased the stones and the family, including ten-year-old Willow, 13-year-old Eden, 15-year-old Ezra, 11-year-old Miciah, their mom Jessie, and friends Adrienne Perl, who initiated the project, Kristi Ensminger and 15-year-old Lydia Appleton, hand painted each stone.

To go along with the hand-painted love stones, students at St. Vincent-St. Mary Catholic High School in Akron hand-made 60 Valentine’s Day cards under the leadership of freshman Ben Rosenfeld, his grandmother Suzanne Murphy, Principal Robert Brownfield and Mrs. Roberts a teacher and service hours coordinator. Additionally, Pink Petals Florist in Akron provided 55 mini carnations at a discounted rate. The Rosenfelds and several other volunteers assisted in delivering these beautiful, hand-made Valentine’s Day gifts to Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice’s hospice patients in the greater Akron area.

“We are so grateful for our volunteers, as well as some of the hospice staff for their spirit of love in delivering these special gifts,” said Daphne Massaro, volunteer coordinator for Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice in Akron. “And I know our hospice patients will appreciate receiving them.”
