OHIO LIVING MOUNT PLEASANT EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH FOR October!

Posted on October 18, 2022 in In The News

Our employee spotlight for this month is Jen! Jen is our Chaplain at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant and has been here for 5 months. “Prior to coming to Mount Pleasant, I have been serving as a parish pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for the last 9 years – [this] is the first time I am entering the role of Chaplain rather than Pastor like I have served for the last decade – I have been extremely blessed to have been able to follow God’s call as he prepared me for this role, and since joining the Mount Pleasant team, I have been wonderfully happy and fulfilled here.” Chaplain Jen defined her role on campus in further detail. “As Chaplain, I serve and nurture the spiritual life of all those on campus. I serve all care levels on campus and all staff as well. My typical week consists of daily rounds in the healthcare center, four in-person Bible Studies, two worship services a week, and 3-5 emergency hospital or pastoral calls, as well as managing volunteers and the schedule for the chapel, following up with families of residents, planning and preparing additional spiritual life activities. My most important function on campus is prayer, not just lifting up my personal prayers with residents and staff, but encouraging and empowering others to participate in their prayer lives as part of our community’s spiritual life.” “The most rewarding part of my calling is that I get to walk with people and help them become active participants in their faith life, whether it is watching an in-depth discussion break out in Bible Study, or listening and walking with a family in crisis, and helping to wrap them in prayer. These are precious moments where I get to see the Kingdom of God break into our community and reveal the wonder of what God is doing here and among us.” Additionally, Chaplain Jen gave some insight about her family. “I am married to an amazing man who has been my partner in ministry and life for the past 15 years. We met in seminary and has even volunteered in ministry at Mount Pleasant as our introductory Handbell Choir Director. I have two children, Caleb and Beka, 10 years old and 8 years old – I love to spend time with my family and friends.” Lastly, Chaplain Jen offered advice for those thinking about healthcare as a career. “Remember that everything someone has to say is important. Reminding them that they are safe and loved is the most important aspect of healing that any of us can do.” Please take a moment to thank Jen for all she does!
