Plan ahead to help ensure a smoother surgery and a speedier recovery
If you are planning a scheduled surgery, pre-surgical therapy will increase your muscle strength and improve your cardio-vascular condition, resulting in a better surgical outcome. With hip or knee replacement, exercise s that strengthen your upper body will help you cope with crutches or a walker after surgery.
“Our new aquatic therapy pool is a great place for increasing pre-surgical fitness,” says Deanna Lane, Therapy Coordinator at Park Vista “Exercising in water puts less strain on joints allowing you to exercise more with less pain than land-based programs.”
“Ask your doctor about pre-surgical exercises. Also ask about the exercises that will be prescribed after surgery. If you familiarize yourself with these postoperative exercises and practice them now, they will be easier to perform after surgery, says Lane.”
For information, contact Park Vista at 330-746-2944, Ext. 1203. We can walk you through the steps of obtaining a physician’s referral, and even contact your physician on your behalf. No physician’s referral is necessary for our wellness classes, just call for a schedule of classes.
