Silver Heart Award Spotlight: Kahealani “Kkay”, Ohio Living Lake Vista

Posted on January 30, 2024 in

Recognizing Silver Heart Award recipient Kahealani “Kkay”, a home health aide who has won the hearts of countless patients served by Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice – Greater Columbus.

From using her cosmetology training to cut a patient’s hair to playing the guitar when her patients are having a tough day, she surely rises above the call of duty to extend quality care.

One colleague gushed, “I have never heard more positive comments from patients as I have about Kkay. Ask any nurse in our department and they will agree - Kkay goes well above and beyond her job requirements to care for our hospice patients. She is trained in cosmetology and cuts the hair of both male and female patients, and she also provides manicures and paints nails with designs. As if this wasn't enough, she will also take out trash, wash dishes and clean the soiled bathrooms of patients who aren't able to do their own housework. She has even been known to buy clothes and food for patients without basic supplies.”

Another teammate added that her heart for people extends across her team too, where she has been known to listen, encourage and boost overall morale. “She definitely has a heart of gold, and not silver,” they joked.
