(MONROE, June 19, 2014) — The MidPointe Library System and Mount Pleasant Retirement Village are collaborating to bring a public library branch to the city of Monroe. The unique partnership will include the two entities entering into a user agreement, in which the Library will be given a 2100 square foot building, on the corner of Mount Pleasant’s campus, to operate as a full-service Library location.

“We have been vigilant in investigating potential avenues to responsibly grow in the Monroe area and this is an exciting way to provide our patrons with a convenient public library space,” says Library Director Anita Carroll. “This collaboration is a phenomenal opportunity for not just the MidPointe Library System and Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, but the community as a whole.”

The new branch, to be established at 1 Tennessee Avenue, will consist of a dynamic collection of Library materials, a Mount Pleasant-run café, space for programming and public use, and services unlike any other local library, including an automated, self-service library machine and remote lockers for patrons to access holds. The building will be open to the public and will feature both cutting edge technology and the comforts of a traditional library setting.

The project is a natural fit for the area and dovetails with the missions of both organizations as they look to evolve and grow.

"Mount Pleasant is a vibrant and ever-evolving retirement community, located in a premier area that is easily accessible to our residents and community, making it the ideal spot for a MidPointe Library System branch,” says Stan Kappers, executive director of Mount Pleasant. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our residents convenient access to the leading edge technology and resources MidPointe Library offers as well as welcoming the greater Monroe area to our campus."
